The Cloaca Maxima, or "Great Drain," was built in the 6th century BC with the intention of removing sewage from the city. In the year 19 BC, Marcus Agrippa decided to reconstruct the Cloaca Maxima, so it was rebuilt to have spacious drains and well-crafted masonry, and it was one of Agrippa's most important feats as Augustus' chief minister, as it ensured a big part of the public health of Rome.
