Caius Maecenas, often known as Maecenas or Maecenas the Patron, was a Roman statesman. He was born between 74 BC and 64 BC into wealth and became an advisor of Augustus. He devoted all of his time in late life to literature and his relationship with the young emperor became tense, but he still gave his property to his friend. He died in 8 BC. He is known known as the symbol of the wealthy, generous patron of the arts.
