Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus, known colloquially as Marcus Aurelius, was born in the year 121. He was Roman empror from 161 to 180, and ruled with Lucius Verus from 161 to 169, then alone until 180. He is the last of the Five Good Emperors, and is considered to be a very important Stoic philosopher. While he was in power, the empire defeated the Parthian empire, a war that had been going on for centuries, and he was victorious in the Marcomannic wars. He died in the year 180.
